Understand the Doubt

Anonymous asked: I've been very strong in my faith, and I never thought it would ever waver, but my thoughts were wrong. I stopped reading my Bible and I stopped praying every day. I don't know why, it just happened. I love God, and He changed so much in me. My life is still the same but He has given me so much hope, and He has been my strength. But lately, I've been having doubts. I don't know why because there's so much evidence of Him in my life. Please pray for me? It would mean so much to me.

Most Christian teens face something in their lives that causes them to doubt their faith. Whether it is listening to people of other faiths describe their beliefs or facing a tragedy, there are times when doubts arise. Questioning your faith is something everyone experiences, and if you can overcome that doubt your faith can come out stronger than before you even asked the questions. Yet, how do you overcome that doubt?

Understand the Doubt
First of all, remember that doubt is normal. Everyone has it from time to time. Yet, make sure you ask yourself where the doubt is coming from. Some people say that doubt comes from Satan. Maybe it does, but that simplifies the doubt to a point where it is easy to just let it fester. Get into the nitty gritty of why you are questioning your faith. Is it because something bad happened? Is it because someone else of a different faith believes so strongly, and you don’t think you are as passionate? Is it because God just seems so far away? Truly examine why you are doubting so you can face those circumstances head on.

Pray About It
So, once you understand why you doubt your faith, you can begin to do something about it. The easiest way to deal with it is to pray about it. Spend some time alone with God talking it out. Let Him know what you are facing and ask him to strengthen your faith. Even if it is hard to believe He is listening, because sometimes He feels so far away when we have doubts, He is there.

Ask for a Sign, but Don’t Expect One
Sometimes, and not always, it can help to ask God to give you a sign he exists. Yet, be prepared that He may not do it. Gideon asked for a sign in Judges 6, and he got it. However, signs are sometimes more subtle and we miss them. Also, sometimes God just wants our unconditional faith. It may just be helpful to look at the everyday signs that God is with us. They can be called “everyday miracles,” like a helping hand or the sun shining in the sky. Sometimes we don’t have to ask for signs, because they surround us everywhere.

Talk to Someone About It
This action can be very difficult for many Christian teens, because they fear the judgement of those around them. We may not want to talk to other believers, because we fear they will think less of us for our doubts. On the other hand, we don’t want to talk to non-believers, because we fear we will only cause them to doubt more. However, most youth leaders and parents have had their own doubts from time to time and may be more understanding than you think. They can talk to you about your doubts, point you in directions that may help ease them, and even help you continue to grow in your faith as you overcome those doubts.

Do Your Research
If talking is not your thing, then you may look into doing some research in order to quell the questions running through your mind. The Bible is a great place to start. Look up scripture about things you question. If you still have doubts, look at books, podcasts, articles, and lectures that address what you need to know. While none of those things may answer your questions definitively, they can help guide you toward your own answers. In the end, faith is still a matter of believing in something you cannot see. So, sometimes it is just a matter of overcoming the doubt by realizing you may not see what you think you want to see, but that you just have to have faith that one day God will show you.

Happy 2010!

"Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland." Isaiah 43:18-19 What are two hopes you have for 2010...

Just Trust God! (Simbang Gabi Day 3)

ang ganda ng sermon kanina ng pari sa simbang gabi, about sa isang jacuno n nautusan ng parish priest n mag bigay ng sermon, kaso isang oras n lng bago magsimula ang misa.. kya ang jacuno ay ng punta sa bishop ng simbahan para humingi ng tulong ang sabi ng bishop sa jacuno, "just trust God! you can do it,." tpos lumabas ang bishop sakanyang opisina at napaisip ang jacuno at nkita niya ang Bible ng Bishop sa ibabaw ng kanya table at kinuha niya ito para maghanap ng sermon at sakto pagbukas ng Bible ay may nakita syang writen n sermon... tuwang-tuwa ang jacuno,. pagkatapos ng misa maayos at maganda ang naging sermon ng jacuno, marami ang ntuwa sa kanyang sermon,. at pakatapos ay biglang dumating ang Bishop at sinabi "young men, did you know that i will use that notes for tonight's mass" paano na lang ako?? at sinabi ng jacuno sa Bishop, father just trust God,. just Trust God He will Help you.,.. nyahahahaha!

Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him. Psalm 37:7 (Simbang GabiDay 2)

I believe that the most common mistake we make in understanding God's will is this: We get a right idea about what he wants us to do, but we miss his timing in carrying it out.

Waiting is an essential part of faith. As the Book of Hebrew says, "faith is being sure of what we hope for, and being certain of what we do not see" (11:1). Faith is believing something that is invisible, something that may not happen immediately. Faith demands that we wait for God's time.

But we humans have a difficult time waiting.

What is Simbang Gabi?? (Simbang Gabi Day 1)

SIMBANG GABI
SIMBANG GABI is one of the longest and most popular among the Filipino traditions in the country. It is when Catholic churches across the nation start to open their doors shortly before the break of dawn to welcome the faithful to the Simbang Gabi mass.
Simbang Gabi or Mass at Dawn is a nine-day novena to the Blessed Mother. The novena begins December 16 as early as 4 in the morning and culminates with the “Misa de Gallo” on Christmas Eve to welcome the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ. In some churches, the panuluyan is reenacted showing the effort of Joseph and Mary to find a suitable birthplace.

ORIGIN
Simbang Gabi traces its roots in Mexico when, in 1587, the Pope granted the petition of Fray Diego de Soria, prior of the convent of San Agustin Acolman, to hold Christmas mass outdoors because the Church could not accommodate the huge number of people attending the evening mass.

During the old times, the pre-dawn mass is announced by the ringing of the church bells. In some rural areas, an hour before the start of Simbang Gabi, a brass band plays Christmas music all over the town. It is also believed that parish priests would go far knocking on doors to wake and gather the faithful to attend the misa de gallo. Farmers as well as fishermen wake up early to hear the Gospel before going to their work and ask for the grace of good harvest.

SIMBANG GABI NOW AND THEN
The changing of times does not break the preservation of celebrating Simbang Gabi although it is celebrated in new ways. Still, the tradition of Simbang Gabi continues. Part of it are the colorful lights and lanterns that fill every streets. Beautiful parols are hung in every window. Songs of the season are played everywhere to warm the hearts. Families, friends and even individuals find its way going to the nearest church to attend the nine-day novena. Shortly after the misa de gallo, families gather in their homes to celebrate Noche Buena and feasted on various delicacies like queso de bola, bibingka, puto bungbong, or a drink of salabat or hot chocolate.

SIGNIFICANCE
Simbang Gabi has become one of the most popular traditions in the country. But it is not just a tradition that is celebrated because we need to do so. It is a significant moment not only because it strengthens relationships among family members but also because it is the time where our faith is intensified. This is the time where we mostly feel the presence of the Lord because it is the spiritual preparation for Christmas, the birth of Jesus Christ. It does not matter if one has the stamina to complete the novena or not, what really matters is what is inside the heart. The blessing does not depend on the number of mass attended, but what is important is the disposition of the person who receives the Lord’s blessing.

3 reasons why we love Simbang Gabi

1.Lights - We love to see the beauty of lights during Christmas Days.
2.Fulfillness - We buy foods after the Mass.
3.Beloging - We have bonding we our friends and family.

The first day of simbang gabi is for youth!

'He gives strength to the weary, And to him who lacks might He increases power. Yet those who wait for the LORD Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary.' - Isaiah 40:29,31

Who am I?

Who am I?

For most of my life I can remember asking myself the question, “Who am I and why am I here?” My answer to myself often left me feeling empty and wondering if I would ever know my true life’s purpose.

As a young man, I didn’t have a grand dream or calling that I could remember. I was interested in a lot of different things and wasn’t afraid to explore. My parents, both successful individuals didn’t have glamorous careers or speak of lofty visions of achievement. Growing up with them, I knew I would get married, have a family and find something meaningful in the world that I would hope to find fulfillment in.

I found many gratifying things to do over the course of my life, I was a young leader, youth ambassador, peace advocate, youth advocate and peer facilitator. Although I appreciated these many opportunities and some of them were quite rewarding none of them ever hit the mark.

Left with a nagging feeling of dissatisfaction, there HAD to be something more to life. I kept looking for that one perfect opportunity, the reason for my being, and the fulfillment of my purpose! Just like the predictability of the seasons I kept asking myself, “Who am I and why am I here?” I was convinced that what I DID defined who I was and I discovered I wasn’t alone in this assumption.

If you ask a hundred people how they would define purpose they often respond by saying, purpose is what we are meant to “do” while we’re here on earth; it’s how we make a difference in the world utilizing our gifts and talents. This conventional perspective relies on the ability to somehow know or stumble across that magic thing that is your destiny to fulfill. No wonder many people go through life wondering what their purpose is and not feeling satisfied.

I began to look at purpose from a new and exciting perspective. Instead of purpose being my “doing-ness” in life, my purpose is my “being-ness”.

Your life purpose is the context or vessel that HOLDS your life suggests Dr. W. Bradford Swift, founder of the Life On Purpose Institute and author of “Traveling the Purpose Path”. Imagine a beautiful jeweled goblet as your life purpose and the glorious wine within it your life. Can you see how your life purpose can shape your whole life as well as give it form and direction?

Your life purpose, that beautiful vessel is a combination of three things: who you are at the very core, your vision for yourself and what you see possible for the world and your values. When I began to answer my own question, “who am I and why am I here” from this perspective a whole new world of fresh possibility opened up for me.

Can you imagine everything you do in your life pouring from this purposeful vessel of your being-ness? Imagine everything you engage in from doing the dishes to leading a board meeting as a direct expression of your life purpose. How would you feel?

Here are some questions to consider helping you begin to clarify YOUR life purpose.

1. Who are you deep down? What do you love and what makes your heart sing?

2. When you are engaged in life and you are at your best, who are you being underneath what you are doing?

3. What is your vision for yourself and what do you see possible?

4. What are your values, the principals that guide your life?

In these simple yet powerful questions I discovered my being-ness. I now know who I am and why I’m here. I learned that deep sense of fulfillment, which we are all seeking, comes from just being me.

Soon after I clarified my life purpose I had a powerful experience. I was driving down the road on my way to pick up my daughter. I heard that old familiar thought pop up again, “who am I and why am I here?” I immediately became present to the truth and beauty of my life purpose:

“A life on purpose is a life of courage, creative expression, conscious awareness and abundant possibility through authentic being and clear compassionate service and love.”

My heart opened and tears came to my eyes…I realized I never had to ask myself that question again.

It’s your life…imagine the possibilities.

I will act now!

Action
I will act now. I will act now. I will act now. Henceforth, I will repeat these words each hour, each day, everyday, until the words become as much a habit as my breathing, and the action which follows becomes as instinctive as the blinking of my eyelids. With these words I can condition my mind to perform every action necessary for my success. I will act now. I will repeat these words again and again and again. I will walk where failures fear to walk. I will work when failures seek rest. I will act now for now is all I have. Tomorrow is the day reserved for the labor of the lazy. I am not lazy. Tomorrow is the day when the failure will succeed. I am not a failure. I will act now. Success will not wait. If I delay, success will become wed to another and lost to me forever. This is the time. This is the place. I am the person.

Adversity
There is no better than adversity. Every defeat, every heartbreak, every loss, contains its own seed, its own lesson on how to improve your performance the next time.

Concentration
The weakest living creature, by concentrating his powers on a single object, can accomplish good results while the strongest, by dispersing his effort over many chores, may fail to accomplish anything. Drops of water, by continually falling, hone their passage through the hardest of rocks but the hasty torrent rushes over it with hideous uproar and leaves no trace behind.

Control
Never allow anyone to rain on your parade and thus cast a pall of gloom and defeat on the entire day. Remember that no talent, no self-denial, no brains, no character, are required to set up in the fault-finding business. Nothing external can have any power over you unless you permit it. Your time is too precious to be sacrificed in wasted days combating the menial forces of hate, jealously, and envy. Guard your fragile life carefully. Only God can shape a flower, but any foolish child can pull it to pieces.

Enthusiasm
Every memorable act in the history of the world is a triumph of enthusiasm. Nothing great was ever achieved without it because it gives any challenge or any occupation, no mater how frightening or difficult, a new meaning. Without enthusiasm you are doomed to a life of mediocrity but with it you can accomplish miracles.

Excellence
Always do your best. What you plant now, you will harvest later.
Happiness
Realize that true happiness lies within you. Waste no time and effort searching for peace and contentment and joy in the world outside. Remember that there is no happiness in having or in getting, but only in giving. Reach out. Share. Smile. Hug. Happiness is a perfume you cannot pour on others without getting a few drops on yourself.

Love
Treasure the love you receive above all. It will survive long after your gold and good health have vanished.

Obstacles
Obstacles are necessary for success because in selling, as in all careers of importance, victory comes only after many struggles and countless defeats. Yet each struggle, each defeat, sharpens your skills and strengths, your courage and your endurance, your ability and your confidence and thus each obstacle is a comrade-in-arms forcing you to become better… or quit. Each rebuff is an opportunity to move forward; turn away from them, avoid them, and you throw away your future.

Progress
Never again clutter your days or nights with so many menial and unimportant things that you have no time to accept a real challenge when it comes along. This applies to play as well as work. A day merely survived is no cause for celebration. You are not here to fritter away your precious hours when you have the ability to accomplish so much by making a slight change in your routine. No more busy work. No more hiding from success. Leave time, leave space, to grow. Now. Now! Not tomorrow!

Success
The only certain means of is to render more and better service than is expected of you, no matter what your task may be.

What is Leadership?

What is servant leadership?
■Servant leadership is one of the most popular leadership models around today.
■The concept was developed by Robert K. Greenleaf in 1970.
■The servant leader serves the people he/she leads which implies that they are an end in themselves rather than a means to an organizational purpose or bottom line.

What do servant leaders do?

■devote themselves to serving the needs of organization members.
■focus on meeting the needs of those they lead.
■develop employees to bring out the best in them.
■coach others and encourage their self expression.
■facilitate personal growth in all who work with them.
■listen and build a sense of community.
Servant leaders are felt to be effective because the needs of followers are so looked after that they reach their full potential, hence perform at their best. A strength of this way of looking at leadership is that it forces us away from self-serving, domineering leadership and makes those in charge think harder about how to respect, value and motivate people reporting to them.

Looked at critically, however, we have to ask whether the idea of leader and employee as partners might not be better than the idea of leaders as servants. It’s just as paternalistic to switch from controlling boss to nurturing boss. Treating employees as partners is even more respectful and valuing. Serving people’s needs creates the image of being slavish or subservient, not a very positive image. In addition, leaders need to serve the needs of shareholders ahead of those of employees. Surely, it makes more sense to say simply that leaders should CONSIDER the needs of employees not be a servant to them. Shifting metaphors from leaders-as-autocrats to leaders-as-servants is going from one extreme to the other. Neither end of the spectrum is very revealing about how organizations function. The principles of servant leadership are admirable. It is the image of SERVANT with its slave-like connotation that is problematic and misleading. See my Critique of this idea for more on my objections to servant leadership.

Selflessness
Advocates of servant leadership emphasize two factors, serving employees and being selfless. The latter is a valuable trait, but we don’t need to call it servant leadership to advocate selflessness. A good example of being selfless is a political leader who champions an unpopular policy, like eliminating carbon waste by a tight deadline because he or she feels it is in the best interest of the country. The leader who campains mainly on the basis of popular policies like cutting taxes is really just buying votes. This person is more interested in getting elected than doing what is best for the country. We naturally take a cynical attitude toward such people and question whether they ought to be regarded as leaders at all. The selfless leader is willing to risk his or her own fate in order to do what is right. This is real leadership, like that of Martin Luther King who risked going to jail and being killed in order to stand up for what he believed in. Of course, many professionals are also selfless without being leaders - many doctors and nurses, for example. So, it is not only leaders who are selfless. In any case, selflessness is possible without being a servant.
